今日はコミカレの英語の冬学期最後の日で、パーティーをしました。

いつもと違う部屋だったので迷っちゃいました。

コミカレの建物、地味に入り組んでて。

It was the last day of the winter quarter of English class at community college and we had a party. It took place in a different classroom from usual, so I got lost again. The building has a complicated inside.

It was a potluck-style party. I brought caramel popcorn. But I think I made a mistake somewhere...I intended to do the same thing as usual, but this time it turned out differently. 

We also did a present exchange. Our teacher called it a "white elephant" when she explained it to us, but I don't understand why it is called so.

The rule is the one I never heard of so far. 

First, presents need to be wrapped so that you can't tell what's inside until you open it. Then decide the order to take a present. Take a present for each person in the order. When you take a present, you rip the wrapping and show everyone the content. When the next person take a present, they can either pick up a wrapped present or steal any present someone already opened. The stolen person can pick up one of the wrapped presents again, but can't steal from someone. 

In this way, bigger numbers have the advantage as you can know what is inside and choose.

It was a bit complicated, but it turned out to be rather fun. The most popular present was a Starbucks gift card. It was stolen four or five times. I brought a handkerchief with Japanese textiles and got a card game called "Two lies and a truth" instead.
